If you're brand new to R/C airplanes or an experienced flier and would like to join our club, this thread should get you started.
First thing you should do is take a trip to our field and meet with one of South County Radio Control Club's (SCRCC) three instructors. Bob Warner the head instructor, Steve McCrory and Carl Durfee. There is an instructors at the field Monday, 9am-2pm, Thursday 2pm-7pm, and Saturday 9am-3pm as long as the weather is cooperating.
Directions to the field can be found here: http://www.southcountyrc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=36
When you go to the field, one of the instructors will give you an application to fill out. Make sure you bring your plane if you have one and would like to get started flying right away.
If you would like to contact the club trainer directly first register for the forum here:http://www.southcountyrc.org/forum/ucp.php?mode=register,
then send a pm to Bob Warner: http://www.southcountyrc.org/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=54
If you are an experienced flier, an instructor will check you and your gear out and determine if you are ok to fly solo or need some training.
The rest of the information is for Novice fliers looking for Instruction:
What do I need to learn to fly?
You'll need your own plane, radio, and fuel. Your radio should be buddy-box capable. Almost all new radios are buddy-box capable, so unless you are using something very old you should be fine. Of course there are a few other things you'll want to have once you start flying like a glow stick and starter for starting your engine, but if you bring those three basic items to the field we should be able to start your training.
How are new fliers trained?
New fliers learn to fly on a "buddy-box" system. Your radio will be hooked to another radio the instructor will use. The instructors radio is the "master" radio. By holding or letting go of a switch the instructor can let you fly the plane, or can take over when needed. The club/instructors have buddy boxes for you to use and they are compatible with most radios. When you bring your transmitter to the field the instructor can determine if it will work with one of the club owned buddy boxes.
SEE YOU AT THE FIELD!!!
